Frequently Asked Questions

With the amended law, the time spent living in the country with a residence permit for studies will now be counted towards that four-year requirement. This makes things much more convenient for international students and gives them a quicker pathway toward permanent residency in Finland.


Permanent residence is possible after four years on a continuous residence permit, including your study period, especially if you are employed post-graduation. For more detailed advice, consult directly with the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) and the Finnish embassy or consulate in your country. 


In the culture of Finland, people appreciate punctuality, good manners, and practicality. Finns love outdoor activities and public access rights “Everyman's rights” grant access to nature for all inhabitants.  


In comprehensive education, all grades are given by the teacher. There are no national examinations as such. Instead, learning results are being monitored with sample-based evaluations. These are usually organised in the ninth grade.
